Former YAPP Director - Lincoln Chapman, Director from 1999-2024
On the voice faculty at MAC since 1997, Lincoln Chapman was a founding director of the Young Artist Preparatory Program at MAC, one of the very few opera programs in the nation for outstanding high school singers. He also taught voice at the School for Creative and Performing Arts and was an instructor for Miami University’s Ohio High School Choral Workshop.
Mr. Chapman held a Bachelor of Science in Music from Bowling Green State University and a Master of Music from University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music, where he studied voice with Andrew White and opera with Italo Tajo and Malcolm Fraser. He made his professional debut with the Cincinnati Opera in Schwanda the Bagpiper, and has performed with Opera Columbus, Syracuse Opera, The Spoleto Festival, Florida Arts Celebration, the Melbourne-Spoleto Festival and Her Majesty’s Theater (Australia), Charlestown Symphony, and the Cincinnati Symphony, among others. Lincoln worked with the Musical Arts Center for nearly 30 years - YAPP was such a huge part of his time with us. He was the heart, soul, and visionary of the program and participated as its director since its inception until he passed away on Tuesday, January 30th, 2024. In his honor, we have renamed YAPP as the Lincoln Chapman Young Artsist's Program (LCYAP). We strive to continue his life's work in vocal education and the development of classical, young vocal talent. We have created the Lincoln Chapman Scholarship Fund - a fund dedicated to supporting talented young classical artists to continue their vocal education, as well as the continuation and future development of the LCYAP program. If you would like to donate to Lincoln's scholarship fund, please use the link here. |
