Master Voice Teacher
An extremely versatile performer, Mary Elizabeth Southworth is an active soprano soloist in repertoires including opera, oratorio, art song, musical theatre, and symphonic works.
She moved from northern Wisconsin to Cincinnati to earn her Masters Degree in Vocal Performance from the prestigious College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati (she completed the degree in 1997). She has sung Gretel in Hansel and Gretel two consecutive years with the Kentucky Opera and also with the Chattanooga Opera. With the Cincinnati Opera she has sung Frasquita in Carmen. Mary Elizabeth has appeared with the Northern Kentucky Symphony and the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra. She has performed recitals in Cincinnati, Columbus, Dayton, and Cleveland.
She has performed numerous times with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. These performances include: soprano soloist in Zemlinsky’s Psalm 84, Blumenmadchen in Wagner’s Parsifal, and Marzelline in Beethoven’s Fidelio. She has also sung with the Cincinnati Pops under the batons of Maestro Eric Kunzel and Marvin Hammlisch.
Last year Mary Elizabeth was seen in Nevada Opera’s production of Marriage of Figaro as Susanna, Kentucky Opera’s production of Marriage of Figaro as Barbarina, and Dayton Opera’s production of Magic Flute as Pamina. She performs in Dayton with Top Brass in their annual Paul Lawrence Dunbar concerts and tours with the group as well.
Mary Elizabeth taught for 6 years at Wright State University from 1997 through 2003 in the Theatre Program. While there she taught Musical Theatre Majors and Acting Majors and many of her students have landed roles in national and international tours.
