What time is my lesson?
Lessons are scheduled at the same time every week. Unless you have scheduled a make-up lesson there should be no variations. The Office does keep a record of your teacher's core schedule but we do not have access to variations due to make-up lessons.

What if I am at my lesson but my teacher's door is closed?
If it is your lesson time please knock on the door to let your teacher know you have arrived.

What if I miss a lesson?
According to our policies and procedures each student is allowed one make-up per quarter for an excused absence (24 hour notice). Same day cancellations and no-shows do not receive a make-up lesson. If you know you will miss a lesson please call and let your teacher know as soon as possible. If you miss more than one lesson you should attend additional classes to maximize your learning.

If we have bad weather will I still have my lesson?
If the Musical Arts Center must cancel lessons due to severe weather conditions, the first occurance per school year is not made up, however, you may attend additional classes to maximize your learning.  Any additional closings due to bad weather will be made up in class time.  If a teacher cancels but the Center remains open the lesson will be made up by the teacher.

May I bring other children to my child’s lesson?
Parents are always welcome to observe their childs lesson, however, please do not bring other children in with you.  If you are waiting for your child outside of the studio, you may certainly bring other children, however, we suggest you bring something to keep them occupied. It is never appropriate to leave your child unattended in our hallways or lobbies. Our building must remain open at all times to allow easy access for our students and it is virtually impossible to monitor who comes in and out. Please be safe.

What do I need to bring to my lesson?
Be sure to bring your music, instrument, pencil, and any other items your teacher may request. Vocalists should bring a cassette tape and water. Many teachers have students bring a small notebook to write in their assignments.

Should I attend Theory?
We recommend that all students take advantage of the Theory course we offer. The course teaches the fundamentals of music that will assist you in your private study. Any student considering music as a career should take theory.

How often should I practice?
The amount of time spent practicing depends on the goal of each individual student. However, it is best to remember that it is quality, not quantity that counts. Talk to your teacher about how to practice. When you are in a lesson you are “renting” your teacher’s ears and experience. To make progress you must take what they tell you and apply it at home between lessons. Setting practice goals will help give a sense of direction.

Do I get to perform in recitals?
Recitals may be considered part of your lesson units. Teachers usually try to alternate recitals with classes throughout the year.
